Our Philosophy

"Mike Ouellet is a contractor who understands a calendar."

Bernard R. Carpenter, V.P. Financial Affairs, Treasurer, Bates College

Big picture thinking

At Ouellet Associates, experience has taught us that the earlier we become involved in a project, the more we can bring value engineering to bear. We work with other key team members to evaluate and simplify construction details, offering our expertise to increase a project’s overall efficiency. By looking at the big picture, we can often suggest modifications that save our clients substantially in the long term.

Our modified construction management process allows us the tightest control of the overall project—including costs. We establish and work to budgets that are both realistic and competitive, because our estimates are based on historic data and compiled by experienced construction professionals. A primary distinction is the way in which we arrive at our GMP (guaranteed maximum price). By negotiating and bidding subcontractors in advance, we provide a project GMP that represents up-front savings, eliminating the necessity of tracking costs in order to share superficial savings at the end of a project.

Positive Relationships Through Teamwork

We nurture positive relationships between all players by eliminating the focus on maintaining profit margins, concentrating instead on what’s best for the project itself. Teamwork is part of our corporate culture and extends to the teams we partner with on each project—owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors. This approach is not only efficient, it defuses the adversarial nature of a triangulated relationship and makes the building process a more pleasant experience for all concerned.

Concrete, Masonry, Structural Steel Erection and Rough Carpentry

Another way in which Ouellet stands apart from the competition is in the ability to perform our own concrete, masonry, structural steel erection and rough carpentry work. This allows us much greater flexibility in tight markets. If the project will benefit, we never hesitate to take these jobs “in house.” If it makes more sense to subcontract, our level of experience guarantees both quality control and efficiency on the job site.
